Alzheimer's disease
Purpose of Study: To evaluate the effects of the study medication, as adjunctive therapy to acetylcholinesterase inhibitors on cognition and overall clinical response in subjects with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Age 50 to 90
- Diagnosed with probable Alzheimer's disease
- 6 months of ongoing treatment for Alzheimer's (Namenda excluded)
- Stable dose of acetylcholinesterase inhibitor medication for 2 months
- Has a caregiver who is willing to attend all visits and oversee the patients compliance and report on the patients status
Exclusion Criteria:
- Diagnosis of vascular dementia
- History or evidence of any other CNS disorder (stroke, hemorrhage, epilepsy, Parkinson's, etc.)
- History of Type I Diabetes
- Type II Diabetes treated with insulin
- History of a cardiovascular event within the last 6 months
- History of psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorder
- History or presence of gastro-intestinal, hepatic, or renal disease
- History of a bone marrow transplant
- Pregnant or lactating women
- History of drug or alcohol abuse

- Study visits and study related procedures/tests
- Laboratory tests
- Investigational drug
- Possible reimbursement for time and travel
